Midland Animal Clinic has been a vibrant part of Poway for over 40 years. Dr. John Augustine and his wife, Diana, moved to Poway from Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1972 and fell in love with the hillsides and open space. They immediately knew that Poway was a place they wanted to stay long-term and develop roots, so Dr. Augustine purchased an old home on Midland Road in 1973 and converted it to be used as an animal hospital. His vision was to create a practice where all clients, patients, and staff are treated like family. As a result, Midland Animal Clinic quickly became part of the community and Dr. Augustine became known as the local family vet.
After graduating from UC Davis in 1985, Dr. Norman Switzer moved to Poway with his wife, Patrice, in order to join the Midland Animal Clinic family. Dr. Switzer fully embraced Dr. Augustine’s practice style and quickly established himself as an excellent veterinarian and surgeon. By 1989, it was clear that he shared the same vision for the Midland Animal Clinic as Dr. Augustine, so Dr. Switzer became an equal partner in the practice.
As the community around the Midland Animal Clinic continued to grow over the years, so did the practice, and it eventually outgrew its original location. After many years of planning, the current clinic was built across the street from the old building and opened its doors in August, 2008. Today, people often use the building as the background for their family pictures.
While we have grown in size, our founding values remain the same. We cherish the relationships that we have developed with our clients and their pets over the years and consider them an extended part of our Midland Animal Clinic family. We strive to provide comfort and care for our patients and want to be known as the place to go when you have concerns about your pets.
